What will be the main application of artificial intelligence (AI)?
I have already written about this topic in Russian (you may translate), but that article concerned the American market and the impact that expectations from AI have on US indices.

At the moment, we see that ChatGPT has placed orders for $1 trillion worth of new computer power for its solutions, although it is still not only at a loss, but also is not a commercial organization. But in order to at least recoup $ 1 trillion, you need to earn at least the same amount, and in the near future, well, at least within 7-10 years, since all these orders must be fulfilled sometime by the 30th year, but even then you need to start earning.
Shouldn‘t the huge growth in AI computing power be explained by something? In other words, ChatGPT should already have an investment project that explains how and how the trillion will pay off. In general, let’s try to guess what it might be? Which technologies of the future will bring a trillion and more without production, without material costs, only due to the operation of some powerful servers connected to the Internet?
We are already seeing the use of AI in education, or rather not in education, but in making life easier for schoolchildren and students, who can now work with data much more easily, write various papers, and solve standard tasks. All this is already there and, most likely, the potential for earning money for students for the AI industry has already been exhausted.
What else? Everything that is somehow related to writing texts, creating pictures, videos and other copyrights. One can, of course, assume that AI will replace all journalists, writers, photographers and artists, but somehow I don‘t really believe it. Yes, AI can simplify routine work for designated professions, but I can’t imagine consuming text written exclusively by AI, but I definitely won‘t pay for it! The arrival of the Internet has already hit this area hard, the paparazzi were chasing Princess Diana to make money to sell the photo, but now celebrities are photographing themselves for free – everything has changed upside down. I can imagine a celebrity, a screen star, or a catwalk star created by AI, but again, I don‘t think millions of people will like it and consume ads from such a character.
One could assume that AI will replace humans in manufacturing, probably, yes, but ChatGPT invests in servers, i.e. they will somehow manage the gates in some office via the Internet? Or a machine tool? It can be assumed that this is possible, but it will be a serious managerial problem, it will be necessary to adjust production and other processes in companies to the requirements of these servers. ERP solutions that automate all this have been around for a long time, but there are also many problems with integration, practical application, etc. Since there are no identical people, there are no identical organizations.
Yes, the topic of driverless cars is promising, Yandex has been doing this, in my opinion, since 2020, and this week Tesla shareholders promised Elon Musk a trillion in cash if he rolls out, among other things, a working taxi without a driver. But have we heard anything about trials of something like this from ChatGPT?
I would also not take into account narrow areas such as investment management, architecture or security, since, on the one hand, unique competencies are needed here, and on the other, various forms of automation solutions are already being fully applied here.
The spheres of housing and communal services and mining are still difficult to imagine without human involvement.
What then? Well, apart from humanoid robots, I have no ideas. We‘ve all read fantasy stories and we can imagine something like this, let‘s say a robot household assistant cleans the house, cooks food, but again, how many such robots, naturally connected to the Internet, have enough computing power? Do they even exist?
We can also assume that there is some kind of new Internet service technology, augmented reality, in which, for example, you will feel at home like at a sports stadium, but this also seems rather controversial.
Programming? There are quite a lot of routine operations there, so I fully admit it, but will replacing Indian programmers with a trillion–dollar machine pay off?
In summary, I can say that I don‘t really believe in the payback of this project, especially since they have already modestly stated the need for government guarantees from the US budget, but the future will certainly put everything in its place.
